December at Flourish

As we head into the festive season, the farm is full of colour, activity, and delicious things growing quietly beneath the winter light. Here’s the latest from the fields – and a big festive invitation to shop local with us this year. You’ll also find three sumptuous festive recipes towards the end of this email to get you thinking ahead to special meals, and possibly ordering a Christmas Produce Box to see you through the season…

Here on the farm the team have been busy sorting through the squash stores (see below), removing anything that’s not perfect – so everything you take home is at its very best. Our Koginut squash is still curing, concentrating its sweetness and developing its silky texture. Once ready, it’s set to be one of the stars of the winter offering. The team have also been busy meticulously hand weeding the salad tunnels to keep on top of the chickweed – our biggest winter competitor. It’s time-consuming work, but the result is the beautiful winter salads you’ll find in the Farm Shop. Speaking of which, you’ll find SmallTown’s mince pies on the counter every week from Fridays to Sundays in the run-up to Christmas.
