Squash Love

Amid a week of perfect farming weather, we’ve been really impressed with our squash crop this year - it’s definitely one of the team’s favourite harvests! There’s something so rewarding about bringing it all in together. With the farm spread out across so many crops, it’s rare that everyone’s working side by side on the same task, and the squash harvest always brings a great sense of unity.

This year’s operation has been a real team effort: Michael and Josh have been on tractors bringing in the squash, while Farida, Zapaghul, Esen, Linda, and Makhabat worked on the ground, loading the windrowed squash into bins before they were driven over to the grain store.

We’re especially grateful to Sam at Little Linton Farms, who kindly offered us space in their grain store across the road - a huge help with such an abundant harvest! Heron and Calixta have been busy loading up the barn, keeping each variety separate and beautifully organised so we can track everything through the season.

We’ve got around 27 bins of 300kg each already in storage, with another 10 or so still out in the fields. That’s a lot of squash - enough to keep plenty of people fed through the colder months. We’ve also grown some exciting new varieties alongside our firm favourites, and we couldn’t be happier with how they’ve performed.
