We Won! BBC Food & Farming Awards – Best Producer

On Tuesday night, a team from Flourish travelled to Bristol for the BBC Food & Farming Awards – and we are absolutely over the moon to share that we won the Best Producer Award. A huge shout-out to the two brilliant fellow finalists, The Courtyard Dairy (North Yorkshire) and Lovingly Artisan (Cumbria). It was an honour to stand alongside such outstanding producers.

For our whole team, this recognition means the world. As farmers – often working behind the scenes rather than front-of-house – it’s incredibly meaningful to have our work celebrated on a national stage. We’re especially delighted to see the BBC spotlighting regenerative organic and agroecological farming, and highlighting its role in shaping a secure, sustainable food future.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall captured this beautifully, saying about Flourish:
“The growing principles underlying the business really do set an example about how we need to think about horticulture in the future: using less water, creating soil fertility with green manures, no application of fossil fuel‑based fertilisers, and they are raising these extraordinarily abundant crops. The learnings have to be exportable and scalable to the wider farming industry.”

We are so grateful to judges Sheila Dillon and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall (who visited us on a warm October day) and to every single member of the Flourish team.

Meanwhile, In Aberdeen…

While the Flourish team was in Bristol for the BBC Food & Farming Awards, our founder Calixta was up in snowy Aberdeen receiving her Nuffield Farming Scholarship – an incredible achievement that will see her travel the world over the next two years. She’ll be visiting countries from Japan and South Korea to Egypt, Kenya, the USA and across Europe, researching how regenerative and ecological growing practices can be scaled to strengthen the resilience of UK fruit and vegetable production.

At the Nuffield Farming Conference she’s been meeting her fellow scholars, diving into new ideas across farming and food policy. Supported by the Elizabeth Creak Charitable Trust, she’ll present her findings in 2027. An incredible opportunity!

Back home, the team has been working tirelessly to prepare for a heavy freeze and snow. The last few days have been a flurry of:

  • Securing polytunnel doors
  • Insulating pipes
  • Harvesting ahead of the frost
  • Laying nets and fleeces
  • Priming boilers

Huge appreciation to everyone on the ground who keeps the farm running, especially during weeks like this. It truly takes a village.
